2 Terminology and Notation

Correspondence table between measurement quantity notation and measurement quantity name based on the standard

The table shows the correspondence between the measurable NL-63 notations and the measurement quantity names according to standards (IEC 61672-1, ISO 1996).

  • The device does not distinguish between “sound level” and “sound pressure level” with or without frequency weighting; it simply indicates “sound level.”
  • Regarding the quantifiers Lp, Lmax, Lmin, and LN, the expression is independent of time weighting (F, S, 10 s, I).

Correspondence between measurement quantity notation and quantifier notation for each standard

The table shows the correspondence between the measurable NL-63 notations and the quantifiers for each standard (IEC 61672-1, ISO 1996).

  • JIS Z 8731 is based on ISO 1996, but since there are some differences in the quantifier notation, the relevant sections are listed separately.
  • Regarding the quantifiers Lp, Lmax, Lmin, and LN, the notation of time weighting (F, S, 10 s, I) is omitted.
